In 2026, the geopolitical landscape continues to shape the global tech landscape, with issues of sovereignty taking center stage and affecting every tech sector. The AI, defense and cybersecurity sectors are opening up new avenues for innovation, both on the European continent and across the Atlantic, in Africa and Asia.
In June, VivaTech welcomes the entire tech world to forge new connections, foster collaboration between experts and scientists from around the globe, and strengthen ties between ecosystems.
More than 60 country pavilions will be present, 20% more than in 2025, with Zimbabwe, Oman and Mauritius making their debut this year, and Canada, South Korea and Japan. L’Europe is more than ever at VivaTech, with among others, Nordic and Baltic countries such as Sweden and Estonia. All are showcasing the best of their technological expertise.
Germany - 2026 Country of the Year
This year, VivaTech has chosen to honor Germany — a country with an extraordinarily rich and dynamic ecosystem and a model of digital development that is both inspiring and replicable for other nations around the world.
To raise the profile of the 14 German federated states, 12 government and institutional bodies, research centers, universities and 200 startups representing the German ecosystem, a space of over 800m², the largest stand in VivaTech’s history, has been designed. Over four days, the German Pavilion and a stage dedicated to the Country of the Year program will host a succession of leaders from German innovation hubs, federal partners, and nearly 150 German stakeholders and partners.
Among the German delegation, two federal ministers will take the floor to discuss the importance of public-private collaboration, research, deep tech and AI in the context of European sovereignty: Karsten Wildberger, Germany's Federal Minister for Digital Transformation and Government Modernization; and Dorothee Bär, Germany's Federal Minister for Research, Technology and Space.
Also attending this year from Germany are business leaders such as SAP, Siemens, Zalando, Allianz or T-Systems and Celonis.
AI Country Partner – India
During the French-Indian Innovation year and following on from the AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi last February, which helped reframe the international debate on the challenges of inclusion, access and the concrete impact of AI serving the common good, VivaTech has chosen India as its AI Country Partner for 2026 to build on the commitments made in New Delhi and transform them into industrial partnerships, strategic discussions and meaningful dialogue.India is demonstrating to VivaTech that it is a laboratory for innovation, boasting one of the world’s most dynamic startup ecosystems, the capacity to roll out solutions for hundreds of millions of users, a vast pool of engineers and researchers shaping the algorithms of tomorrow, and a public digital stack (India Stack) that serves as a global model for technological inclusion.
Europe at the crossroads
Europe is developing its model of technological sovereignty, combining responsibility, balanced regulation, citizen protection, and sustainability, and is debating the 28th European Regime as a framework suited to the digital era, aiming to make it a lever for competitiveness and autonomy. This year, 19 European countries are represented, illustrating the richness and diversity of innovation across the continent, including, for the first time this year, Sweden, known as Europe’s ‘unicorn factory’, showcasing expertise in mobility and the cloud, Spain, which is participating with one of its most ambitious delegations to date, through the Spain Pavilion, led by CEX España Exportación e Inversiones and Red.es. Austria, as well as Baltic countries such as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, are joining the Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Belgium, Portugal and Switzerland, a long-standing partner of VivaTech, which will host the World AI Summit next year.
Furthermore, for the second consecutive year, VivaTech has unveiled its Top 100 Rising European Startups, in partnership with Accel, Eurazeo, HV Capital, Northzone, Partech and White&Case (see the Awards section of this press kit).
This edition of VivaTech puts the spotlight on the European Centre for AI Excellence (ECAIE), an initiative launched by VivaTech and the World Economic Forum. The ECAIE is an independent platform working to make Europe a global leader in artificial intelligence, by promoting European excellence and accelerating the adoption of best practices both in Europe and internationally.
The Tech Scene in Africa
African innovators and tech ecosystems have always been strongly represented at VivaTech. This year, for the first time, we note the presence of Zimbabwe and Mauritius, who are taking part in this edition and joining Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Senegal, Morocco and Rwanda, as well as more than 150 African startups, in the AfricaTech Village (Hall 7.1).
The AfricaTech Village features a stage dedicated to the African tech ecosystem, as well as the 30 finalist startups of the AfricaTech Award, in partnership with Deloitte, Knowledge Partner (see below and the Awards section in this press kit). The Village program aims to highlight the continent’s most promising startups, whose technological solutions address the continent’s major economic, societal and environmental challenges.
For the first year, the AfricaTech Award is expanding its scope to highlight players from 7 innovative industries: FinTech; HealthTech; HRTech; AI and Big Data; GreenTech; Agri-Fintech; and Industry Tech, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Logistics. 30 startups from the African continent have been selected for their impactful technological solutions from more than 260 applications from 34 African countries, with Nigeria (11 selected startups), Kenya (4) and Egypt (4) being the most represented.
