Our Story

2016: The first edition

Founded in 2016 by Publicis Groupe & Les Echos-Le Parisien, VivaTech launched as a hub for startups and corporations to collaborate. “It was a crazy adventure, but the result exceeded expectations—45,000 visitors, 5,000 startups, and global speakers.” - Julie Ranty, Co-Managing Director (2016-2022)

2017: Emmanuel Macron launches the French Tech Initiative

President Emmanuel Macron launches the “French Tech Visa,” to attract global innovative talent. This solidifies our reputation as a critical catalyst for international innovation.

2018: The VivaTech Awards are created

We launch the Female Founder and Next Startupper Challenges to highlight ecosystem diversity. Attendance hits the 100,000 mark, supported by 9,000 startups.

2019: Open innovation growth

For the first time in our history, we expanded into Hall 2, opening the Better Life Avenue spotlight innovations and startups building solutions for good. Startup Challenges surge past 10,000 applications, with winners earning incubation opportunities alongside industry leaders.

2020: The pandemic gap

The 2020 edition was cancelled due to Covid and postponed to the following year, forcing us to hit pause. That unexpected gap became our live R&D lab, giving us time to rethink formats and new experiences.

2021: Zuckerberg and Cook take the stage

In 2021, Mark Zuckerberg and Tim Cook took center stage at VivaTech, highlighting the event’s global influence. Their virtual keynotes addressed the future of technology, digital regulation, and the positive impact of innovation on society.

2023: VivaTech becomes the world's leading tech and startup event

Breaking records with 150,000+ attendees, VivaTech secures its place as the leading startup and tech event in the world. “This is a tremendous reward for our teams' hard work and a testament to the vitality of Europe’s tech ecosystem and VivaTech’s unique role in it.” - François Bitouzet, Managing Director

2024: The Impact Bridge opens

VivaTech created a new space called the Impact Bridge in 2024, a 1,500m² space dedicated to positive impact, bringing together startups, innovations, and associations with environmental or societal projects.

2025: Breaking records

We hit a new high with 180,000 visitors and 14,000 startups on site, confirming VivaTech as the place where AI and industry collide at scale. NVIDIA brings GTC to Paris, with CEO Jensen Huang charting the rise of sovereign and agentic AI. On stage, President Emmanuel Macron and Arthur Mensch join him to announce the Mistral Compute AI cloud platform, powered by 18,000 GPUs.

2026: The tenth edition

We celebrated 10 years of VivaTech by stepping off the show floor and onto the Champs-Élysées, turning Paris’s most famous avenue into our anniversary playground. AWS joins as a founding partner and we make our biggest move yet, taking over Hall 7 at Porte de Versailles with 30% more exhibition space and twice the seating capacity for even more business connections.
