About Me
Roberto Di Cosmo is founder and director of Software Heritage, the universal archive that collects, preserves, and shares the source code of all publicly available software. Built by Inria in partnership with UNESCO, Software Heritage is a shared infrastructure for science, industry, public policy, and society, preserving more than 28 billion unique source files from over 430 million projects.
A professor of Computer Science at Université Paris Cité, currently on leave at Inria, Roberto Di Cosmo taught for nearly a decade at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris before joining Université Paris Cité. He chairs the Software and Source Code College of France’s National Committee for Open Science and presides over the Board of the IMDEA Software Institute.
A long-standing advocate of Free Software, Open Science, and digital commons, he founded IRILL, a research structure dedicated to Free and Open Source Software quality and launched the Free Software working group of the Systematic competitiveness cluster, which helped to support more than 50 collaborative R&D projects representing over €200 million in investment.
